Army Half Marathon

By Ian

Well, this morning was the race I had been training for, The Singapore Bay Run or Army Half Marathon or Sheares Bridge Run. I did the full distance (which is a half-marathon 21km/13miles). It started at the ungodly hour of 5.30am. That is a flag-off time of 5.30am which meant I had to reach the area at about 4.40 or so to warm up and get into place.

It was a very enjoyable run through Chinatown, past Chunnie’s office, across the Sheares bridge, along ECP and back to the NDP floating platform. Supposedly there were 60,000 runners participating in the different catagories. This must have been quite scary for the innocent families and couples who were romantically curled up along ECP. I mean you’re happily sleeping there then at 6am 60,000 people run by you.

I think the run was pretty uneventful and i’m glad for that! I was able to complete it without any problems and in fact I was feeling pretty good even right at the end. Hopefully this means I can go further, some time in the future. Another reason I was inspired right at the end was to see the two ladies in my life cheering me on! :-D Chunnie and my mom were able to get into position just in time to see me go by. I had told them that I was aiming to finish somewhere before 2 hours, so being optimistic I had told them to be there at 7.15 to 7.30. They got there just in time because I finished in 1:47:45.
